Routine consultant-led referral A non-urgent referral to a specialist, for example for a hip or knee problem.

Urgent suspected cancer referral A referral made because cancer is suspected and needs to be confirmed or ruled out.

A diagnostic test A scan or test, such as an MRI or endoscopy, booked separately from treatment.

A&E An attendance at an accident and emergency department.

An ambulance call, by category A 999 call for an ambulance, categorised by how urgent it is.
